BCS Aftermath
After watching the total annihilation of USC in the second half I was interested to see how the media would react. Just as I expected, Boise State wasn't even mentioned and at the closing of the game, one of the commentators believed that Oregon would be ranked number 4 in the BCS, placing them in front of TCU at 5. Iowa and Boise State was left out of the top 5. Now I'm not saying that Boise State desreves to be in the national championship, however, what I am saying is that the system stinks. How could you justify Oregon moving past Boise State in the polls? Some may say that Oregon had a harder schedule, which is true, however, the single loss on Oregons' record is to Boise State. People may believe that the Oregon team now, would demolish Boise State. That is possible, however, how would you know? Boise State defeated Oregon when they were at full strength, before the punch heard around the world. In any case, it was a treat for me to see one of the big boys fall and I hope that there is more to come. Everything will work itself out and if TCU and Boise State are standing undefeated at the end, I'll be interested to see how the BCS all works out.

Nightmare on BCS Street
For all those BCS lovers and perpetrators I would like to wish you a Happy Halloween. Hope you'll enjoy the games tomorrow because your beloved BCS might be in jeoperday. Upsets by the hand of Oregon, Georgia and Oklahoma State may be fatal blows to the great monster, "The BCS". Just like I cheered when Freddy Krueger dispatched his vicitms one by one, I will applaud if I were to see Florida, USC and Texas take a deep sleep and never wake up. Just like Friday the 13th, the most unlikely person (Boise State, TCU) will survive. Here is to Halloween, hope all of you enjoy it. Dress up and eat candy and for those sports fans out there, I encourage you to watch football tomorrow because you might be in for a treat.
Happy Halloween

Question Of The Week
Who will play more games this season, Greg Oden or Andrew Bynum?
Over 4 seasons Bynum has only played over 50 games once, on the other hand, in Odenʻs first year as an NBA player he played 61 games even though he struggled with injuries. Between these two players itʻs a coin flip, however, if I were a betting man I would place my chips on the younger looking player (Bynum) whose been in the NBA longer and hopefully has learned what it takes to train his body for an entire season. With that said, whoever has drafted these players, I wish you luck because you have a coin flip or a twisted ankle chance of losing them for the year.

Gimmick Plays
Being a long time Miami Dolphins fan I was ecstatic to watch my Fins beat those trash talking Jets, who not to long ago was the talk of the NFL. Now they’ve come down to earth and are 3-2 while the Fins have reminded the NFL that they are still the same team that made the playoffs a year ago. So don’t sleep on the Fins.
With so many great story lines to discuss like the resurrection of Braylon Edwards or the great individual effort by Chad Henne, what caught my attention wasn’t the game but the comments made by Rex Ryan after the loss. In short, he mentioned that he couldn’t believe that his team was beat by a “gimmick”. Initially, I didn’t take this as a slight because a win is a win, however, as I listened to Around the Horn on my hike to class it seemed to me that gimmick was a negative term and was used to put down the Fins. So I asked myself after hearing the rambling chatter, “what is a gimmick anyway”. Their reaction got me intrigued so I decided to look up the definition of a gimmick and found on Dictionary.com that the Wildcat offense is a gimmick because it’s, “an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, esp. one designed to attract attention or increase appeal”. I agree with Rex. The Fins new offense is a brilliant plan that has led them to successful win over those old fashioned, run of the mill Jets. Who knew that learning new words could be so fun.

Unnecessary Touching
Why is it acceptable for grown men in pads to grab or slap each other on the butt? Does different situations make certain actions more acceptable? For instance, have you ever seen any man slapping their friend on the butt after a hard day at work. Probably not, but some how playing football means you can spank another guy.
When does this start? Well, when I was playing high school football being slapped on the butt was no big deal. But now that I look back I wonder why that is. Maybe it’s because the first people to slap your butt is probably your coach. This may be the reason why it’s so acceptable. When we are young we learn by example and therefore, Manning may be acting out what he saw his daddy and coaches do.
If you want to stop all this touching. It starts with you. Let your children’s coach know that you won’t stand for it anymore. STOP THE BUTT SLAPPING NOW!!!
